Wild Clay and ancestral clay processing techniques workshop
This one-day add- on wild clay workshop provides a perfect introduction for those who are interested in exploring ways of foraging wild clay as well as processing and preparing it. We will share suggestions, practical advice based largely on own ancestral knowledge and that which we have found to be helpful in our experience.
Format of the day:
Am
Search for clay across 3 different sites (where a different type of clay is present at each). We will look for various clues in the land that guide us in our search and collect small samples of each so that you can make some tests and keep some of the raw material.
Pm
After breaking for lunch we will begin to prepare clay going through the different stages of breaking down and drying out the clay before following steps more similar to those used in the clay reclamation process. We will also explore different methods for testing the different properties and qualities of the clay to determine what each might be most suitable for.
At the time of booking you will receive a free 12 - page digital booklet that we have created to help summarize the experience. It also includes practical examples and advice to help you find and work with wild clay, wherever you are based, to help you develop your own foraging practice.
NB: We recommend that this workshop takes place on the first Friday of residents stay (to really work the traditional elemental way from the beginning) it is also possible to do the workshop on Monday´s or Tuesdays during residencies.
